Opener Series hay rake leaves a clean path for tractor

Last year’s Henty Machine of the Year winner Simon Schinckle is back again this year with his new Opener Series hay rake.

Schinckle openerThe standard machine opens out to a maximum
of 3.6m, however a larger 12 reel model will be
released onto the Australian market this year.

“The most asked question about the OPENER Series hay rake is: ‘Why hasn’t this been made before?,” Mr Schinkle said.

“It is because quite often the simple things are usually overlooked.”

When the Naracoorte based hay rake manufacturer designed his new “Opener Series” hay rake, he wasn’t exactly sure what all the benefits of a machine like this were going to be.

“One out the front and one out the back of the tractor – this is what makes a great combination of hay rakes,” he said.

Mr Schinckle designed the Opener Series to do a specific job working in the Victorian Mallee area, where the crops had been cut down with 9-12m header fronts.

This had left the rows too close together to drive a tractor between them without running over the material and packing it back down on the ground and causing damage to the leaves.

However, Simon soon learnt what his new worldwide patent pending Opener Series Hay rake was capable of doing.

“The machine has been used in various different situations – raking a clean path for the tractor to drive on after hay or silage has been teddered, used for turning two rows at once and pushing narrow rows apart from narrow mower conditioners,” he said.

“A lot of hay gets damaged from the tractor running on it and packing it back onto the ground.”

The standard Eight Reel Opener Series hay rake can be mounted to a tractor in three different ways:

  1. Front End Loader Arms
  2. Two point Linkage
  3. Bolted to the front cast weight

The standard machine opens out to a maximum of 3.6m, however a larger 12 reel model will be released onto the Australian market this year.

This machine is capable of turning two 4.8m mower conditioner rows at once and opens out to a maximum width of 6.7m.
