Two young musicians in unique cultural exchange

Two young musicians chosen at the 2017 Henty Machinery Field Days-Dreamfields festival are due to jet out to the United Kingdom next week on a cultural exchange.

ChelseaChelsea Knight, Staghorn Flat, was
selected for the UK exchange program
after performing at Henty.

The Somerset Creative Exchange, supported by HMFD, Dreamfields and Somerset Rural Youth Project, will be a musical experience of a lifetime for Border musicians Chelsea Knight and Nick Keogh.

The pair will fly out on May 21 to perform at several shows in Somerset, Bath and Bristol, and to meet Michael Eavis, creator of the iconic Glastonbury Music Festival.

The Dreamfields Creative Youth program provides a platform for young rural people and culminates each year in the Dreamfields Festival Awards at the Henty Machinery Field Days.

Nick, of Mullengandra, and Chelsea, of Staghorn Flat, were chosen as the co-winners of the 2017 event.

Students participating in shires and schools based workshops receive entry to the festival, with $3000 in prizes and the UK Creative Exchange up for grabs.

Festival co-ordinator Craig Dent said the Australian Cultural Hub, Albury City Youth Services, and regional businesses had donated $2500 to assist with Nick and Chelsea’s exchange.

HMFD chairman Ross Edwards said the co-operative proudly provided a venue for rural and regional youth to showcase their talent, along with supporting a cultural exchange unique on the national field day circuit.
