Soil initiative to create climate smart farming practices
The Cool Soil Initiative (CSI) is set to make a significant impact to farmers, boasting an innovative approach to sustainable farming.
CSI is a paddock-to-product partnership focused on improving food sustainability by promoting healthy soils and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
This initiative is a collaboration between the food industry, farmers, and Charles Sturt University, working together to create climate-smart farming practices that benefit both the environment and agricultural productivity.
CSI offers a scientifically credible framework that helps farmers adopt sustainable practices tailored to their specific regions.
By partnering with regional farming systems groups, CSI tests and validates management practices that lower greenhouse gas emissions, improve soil health, and support the long-term sustainability and profitability of farms.
Each participating farm receives a regionally benchmarked commodity footprint and soil health report, giving farmers detailed insights into their operations and the tools to make informed practice changes.
Importantly, the initiative is free for farmers, funded by its food industry members and Charles Sturt University. This funding structure ensures the entire supply chain, from paddock to product, is engaged in producing sustainable, low-impact food products.
The launch event at Henty on Wedneday, September 18 at 3.30pm at the CUS site offers farmers a unique opportunity to learn about the benefits of the Cool Soil Initiative firsthand.
Attendees will gain insights into how CSI can help them reduce their environmental impact while boosting productivity and profitability.
The event will also showcase how CSI brings the whole supply chain together, with industry partners receiving validated greenhouse gas claims and impact reports that demonstrate progress towards sustainability targets.
As the agriculture sector faces increasing pressure to adopt sustainable practices, CSI stands out as a practical, science-backed solution that empowers farmers to lead the charge in climate-smart agriculture.
Don’t miss this chance to be part of a movement that is cooling the planet, one farm at a time.
