Revegetation guides to be launched at Henty Machinery Field Days
Henty Machinery Field Days is set to be a day of celebration for the region's Landcare community this year with the launch of the South West Slopes and Riverina Revegetation guides.
These two guides were the collective effort of the region's best and most experienced practitioners, to modernise the original 1990 books and become a resource capable of directing revegetation practices for a future of carbon and environmental markets, global sustainability reporting and a changing climate.
Holbrook Landcare Network's CEO Dr Alison Southwell said the project had been one of passion and pride for staff to compile a lifetime's worth of knowledge and experience into key resources that will better equip land managers to revegetate their landscapes to be more resilient through times of drought and other local and global disturbances.
Landcare NSW Chair Gareth Johnson said at a time when revegetation efforts need to be threefold where they are now, to address ecological decline and emission
targets, and when native seed is in such short supply, it is essential we maximise revegetation success through best practice.
"Every seed counts," he said.
Along with the launch of the guides, an interactive website has been developed and contains a vast reserve of information and greater access to resources for farmers, practitioners and the broader community to use.
Containing information on everything from establishment methods to what species grow where, this is an essential tool for anyone planning a revegetation project. This project has been funded by the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund and co-delivered by Holbrook Landcare Network and Murrumbidgee Landcare Inc.
To learn more from those that wrote the guides and join the celebration, come to the stump at Henty Machinery Field days at 11.30 am on Wednesday, September 18.
Hard copies of both guides will be available to the public at the end of the month.
