Regional media in challenge for Golden Gumboot award
Field day visitors will be able to see their favourite breakfast announcers and local scribes tackle a series of farm activities in an effort to win the 2024 HMFD Media Challenge.
The inaugural challenge was held in 2018 and is back this year due to popular demand from the participants and exhibitors who took part.
There is no Golden Microphone for the winner but instead boasting rights plus the Golden Gumboot trophy.
Lining up to defend their 2022 and 2023 title will be the Radio 2AY team up against the teams from Triple M The Border, Triple M Riverina and The Land newspaper. The Border Mail will have a team for the first time this year.
The teams will compete in a tractor pull at the Hutcheon & Pearce site at 9.30am on Tuesday, September 17.
The “tractor pull’’ will involve using a special harness to pull a ride-on lawn mower over a set distance at the fastest time.
The teams then move onto the TAFE NSW site where entrants will be scored out of 10 on throwing a fleece across a wool table.
The Great Crack Off will be held at The Stump where teams will attempt to crack a stock whip and be scored on their technique.
The CWA will host the final challenge on the Country Lifestyle stage where entrants will attempt to scoff as many scones, jam and cream as possible in a minute.
