Portable fire protection system is quick to deploy
The Mozzie Fire MC-7 has been designed from the ground up based on a need for a fire protection system that is portable while being quick to deploy.
It is an entry in the Henty Machine of the Year Award from the Smoker family, Mozzie Fire, in the Adelaide Hills.
“After talking to community members, we found many are ill prepared and do not feel they have the knowledge, skills or resources to know where to start to be better prepared for bushfire. We could see a real issue and wondered how we could help,” Mozzie Fire co-principal Matt Smoker said.
The result is the Mozzie Fire FC-7. It is adaptable, ensuring it can assist in protecting a range of assets including houses, hay sheds, machinery, firewood storage, livestock, horses/stables, and vineyards.
At the heart of the system is an electric start Honda engine, easy to service and maintain, and is supported by every small engine dealer with parts and service information readily available.
This is supported by an Australian made Davey Twin stage pump. The system is then connected using Australian made fire hoses. All the design and manufacturing is carried out by Australian owned Mozzie Fire in Australia.
Other features include stainless steel/aluminium construction, national standard fire authority couplings, as well as being towable via a ride-on mower or ATV.
“Easy to start up and run by nearly everyone and requiring no heavy lifting, the Mozzie Fire FC-7 has no complicated plumbing and the electric start pump, meaning even the kids can help,” Mr Smoker said.
The carefully thought-out design ensures all components have a specific home for storage, reducing the likelihood of components being misplaced.
“All you need to add is fuel for the pump and a static water supply (ideally at least 22,500 litres). This supply can be from tanks, pools or most dams, ensuring it is versatile enough for just about any situation,” Mr Smoker said.
“The commitment to provide support and education to the wider community stands as an important pillar or what makes up Mozzie Fire.”
