Feedback from fodder producers on a machine with the capability of reducing drying time and bleaching has evolved into the Berrima Multi-Ted 12-6.
Berrima Engineering, Deniliquin, have entered the heavy duty Multi-Ted 12-6 hay tedder in the Henty Machine of the Year Award following its market launch on April 1.
Berrima’s Martin Morona said the idea for the Multi-Ted came through fodder producer requests for a machine to improve hay and silage quality by reducing drying time and bleaching.
“Some tedders can be light in construction and lack versatility in their functions along with being too aggressive on leafy crops,’’ Mr Morona said.
“The Berrima Multi-Ted can be used as a tedder where the crop is dispersed evenly across the ground or as a hay inverter/splitter where it moves mower swaths on to dry ground and fluffs the row at the same time a day or two after cutting.
“The application tested on the Berrima Multi-Ted was to move three mower swaths simultaneously off their original cut position onto dry ground and splitting each mower cut into two smaller rows.
“This reduces drying time and bleaching, in turn, improving hay quality.’’
The Berrima Multi-Ted is available in working widths from 9-12 metres, making it perfect for mower widths of 3.5-5 metres.
“Trials carried out earlier this year have shown the Berrima Multi-Ted reduces drying time by one to two days and has significantly reduced bleaching in lucerne,’’ Mr Morona said.
