Henty Machinery Field Days was the first agricultural field days in the world to mark the 120th anniversary of machinery manufacturer New Holland.
A cake cutting ceremony was held at The Stump during the field days on Wednesday (September 23) to mark the occasion.
HMFD chairman Ross Edwards recalled how New Holland machinery was sent to the field days by train in the early history of the event.
“Our members would unload that machinery in the middle of the night after a meeting and tow it out to the field day site,’’ Mr Edwards said.
He acknowledged the dealers in the event’s early history – Great Southern Motors, Wagga Wagga; J D Phillips, Albury; Billabong Motors, Lockhart; and Laurie Gregson, Culcairn.
“Those early New Holland balers were reliable and served people who owned them well. This went through to the big square balers where New Holland had a great reputation.
“The twin rotor system is also unique to New Holland headers.’’
Mr Edwards complimented New Holland on the presentation of their site at Henty over the years.
The company struck a limited edition 120-year pin for customers and field day visitors to collect.
New Holland Government and Corporate Business Manager Andrew Barrie thanked the field days for the support over decades.
“The assistance in setting up our site has been second to none – it is a field day that we are passionate about and the investment we put in it shows,’’ Mr Barrie said.
He said the company dated back to 1895 when an equipment repair shop in the small town of New Holland, in the heart of the Amish community in Pennsylvania, USA.
Mr Barrie said the New Holland Machine Company was founded in 1903, producing agricultural equipment including a feed mill.
“The old mill is now the global centre for excellence for the development of hay and forage machinery upon which New Holland has made its name,’’ he said.
“Throughout the years, New Holland has grown from a small humble operation to become one of the world’s most respected brands in agricultural machinery.
“It’s renowned for its innovative nature and demand for excellence, and it provides a full compliment of products to provide a variety of applications.
