A valuable genetic selection tool for the sheep industry will be on display at the Telstra site at the Henty Machinery Field Days.
Staff from the Co-operative Research Centre for Sheep Industry Innovation (Sheep CRC), leading breeders and farm consultants will man the Telstra stand to showcase the new web-based app, RamSelect.com.au
Sheep CRC chief executive James Rowe said RamSelect.com.au was a game changer for the sheep breeding industry in Australia.
“At the field days, the team will have the app on display on a number of iPads at the Telstra site, allowing producers to engage directly with the people who helped develop this tool, and learn how they can maximise the benefits it offers,’’ Mr Rowe said.
RamSelect.com.au has been developed by the Sheep CRC in conjunction with the leading software development companies in the world.
The NSW Department of Primary Industries has also had extensive involvement through the development of the app, providing expertise from the initial concept to the final product.
It allows commercial sheep breeders to search for, and list the most suitable rams available for their production system, drawing on powerful Australian Sheep Breeding Values (ASBVs) data through intuitive and easy to use software.
RamSelect.com.au allows ram buyers to quickly rank rams available for sale against their breeding objective prior to sale day.
On sale day the buyer only needs to check the visual traits before making their purchase decisions.
The web-based app builds upon the popular RamSelect training workshops, which have helped thousands of sheep producers to profitably use genetic technologies to bolster their production.
