Branded everything from a bogan to a brilliant athlete, Warwick Capper played a central role in Australia’s “champagne’’ era of football.
The high flying full-forward, who kicked more than 400 goals during his career with the Sydney Swans in the late 1980s, will be at the Henty field days as an exhibitor with business partner Charlie Salerno.
The pair run a mobile coffee van business called Cappercinos and are also regular guests on the Channel 9 Footy Show.
They will be serving up coffee at the field days along with autographed football memorabilia.
Capper was equally famous for his on and off-field antics.
As the Sydney Swans first poster boy, he was used as a marketing tool to boost membership and draw women to the game by Swans owner and flamboyant businessman Geoffrey Edelstein.
Capper kicked 92 goals in 1986 and followed up with 103 goals in 1987.
Post football, Capper’s career has ranged from stripper, metre maid and male escort to comedian, singer and contestant on television show Celebrity Apprentice Australia.
Upon turning 50, Capper told Mike Sheahan in a 2013 interview he was “older and wiser’’ but still wore his heart on his sleeve.
At corporate functions, he now advises young sportspeople to achieve their best and market themselves.
Capper’s father, Wally, played for Fitzroy and Warwick began playing football at the age of eight.
He was recruited at 16 and spent two years battling it out in the ruck in the thirds.
“I trained 11 months of the year and loved Tom Haffey,’’ Capper said.
A natural high jumper as a child, Warwick quickly established a reputation for his high-flying marks, taking the Mark of the Year in 1987.
The Cappercino vans are adorned in signage with Capper’s trademark blond locks, and staff are outfitted in Capper’s leopard-print shorts serving café style food.
Mr Salerno said the business had moved away from urban shows to country events and agricultural field days.
“We work in with local sports clubs to hold fund raising nights and auction football memorabilia,’’ he said.
“We will have plenty of footballs signed by individual players, jackets, T-shirts, and other footy merchandise at Henty.’’
