Continuous improvement has been key to Serafin Machinery’s success with their Ultisow and PastureKing ranges of disc seeders.
By identifying common challenges faced by farmers with existing no-till systems and incorporating design improvements to their products to help resolve these challenges, it has led them to be one of the leading no-till seeding manufacturers in Australia.
In 2019 Serafin launched the fourth generation of their Single Disc opener known as the SB2019 and featuring reduced maintenance, more flexibility in the conditions it will work in, and improved seed placement.
“All things in no-till seeders that customers felt could be improved,” sales manager Rodney Dunn said.
“These improvements came through listening to customer feedback, consultation with engineers, and then proving the design changes through two years of field testing.
“The final step was a trip to Brazil to incorporate the changes to the design at the factory level.”
Manufactured in Brazil by Baldan to Serafin specifications, the Serafin Baldan (SB) unit released in April has already been met with praise from existing customers who have been trailing the new units as well as new customers who purchased machines in May this year.
The Serafin Baldan (SB) 2019 unit will be on display at the Henty Machinery Field Days.
“We are one of the most pro-active ag manufacturers in Australia quick to incorporate changes and improvements to our products based on customer feedback and continual research and development,” Mr Dunn said.
“We are small enough to be able to have changes incorporated into the design yet big enough to be able to take it up to the big guys.
“This hands-on approach and thirst to produce a better product for our clients has led us to have one of the best all round single disc openers available on the Australian market.”
“Our last release of openers that came out in 2016 was a really good unit and it was an improvement on the previous model before that, but we still felt like we had that last 5 per cent of improvement we could make. The SB2019 has nailed this!”
It features a new style disc hub and bearing system which has reduced the regular service interval of the row unit to 200-250hr with one single grease point per opener.
It has also done away with the need for pre-loading the disc hub bearing as well.
Improved seed placement has come from a new style seed boot and a re-designed mud scraper will help with working in a larger variety of sowing conditions.
They have also narrowed up the row unit width so it is able to achieve a narrower row spacing down to 158mm (just over 6”) on a two-rank machine, exciting livestock producers looking for a row unit for pasture renovation.
The SB2019 row unit will be available on all of Serafin’s Ultisow products including the popular Narrow Fold range as well as the new three rank 12m Ultisow S40’s.
