Southern Skin Cancer Clinic will be providing free (bulk billed) skin checks in the Country Lifestyle pavilion at this year’s field days.
The risk of skin cancer is increased if you spend a lot of time outdoors, have previously been sunburnt, have fair skin, skin with numerous moles or if you have a family history of melanoma.
Based in Carrum Downs, Victoria, the Southern Skin Cancer Clinic will provide full body skin cancer checks to field day visitors and exhibitors.
“This is the fourth year of offering this potentially lifesaving community service to rural areas that may not have access to such facilities,’’ clinic spokesperson Michelle Hoey said.
“There are many reasons why people don’t have skin cancer checks – usually because they don’t want to know,’’ she said.
“The problem with that is although most skin cancers are easily treated, there are some forms of skin cancer that if left undetected can take your life.
“Early detection is the best way to prevent or cure skin cancers.
“We encourage people to visit our friendly, caring and knowledgeable team of doctors and nurses who have now seen several thousand patrons.’’
