True vertical tillage tools from Great Plains

The Turbo-Max fractures the soil with minimal soil disturbance to prepare a seedbed to maintain moisture levels and reduce soil erosion.

Growers will be able to inspect the range of true vertical tillage tools at the Great Plains site at this year’s Henty Machinery Field Days.

True vertical tillage is becoming the standard for yield-boosting seedbed preparation with Great Plains offering a range of products to meet the diverse needs of different farming operations.

The Turbo-Max is a vertical tillage tool using narrow discs set at a vertical angle to slice the ground, and cut and mix residue.

This system fractures the soil with minimal soil disturbance to prepare a seedbed to maintain moisture levels and reduce soil erosion.

As the discs do not have a shearing action, a pan is not created while this system will cut through any existing pan.

The Turbo-Max is available in working widths of 2.6m to 14.6m and features “turbo blades” on two rows of coulter gangs with a hydraulically adjustable rear gang from 0-6 degrees, offering greater flexibility for changing field conditions.

The blades are set at 7.5 inch row spacings followed by a rolling spike harrow that mixes the soil and crop residue, with a finishing rear reel to firm the soil.

The Turbo-Max can be transported at less than 3.0m for the 3.0m, 6.0m and 8.0m folding models with the larger models folding up to 5.5m width.

Available for the larger Turbo-Max range is the Turbo-Seeder.

This broadcasting seeder can be mounted to the Turbo-Max with either a 680 litre or 1200 litre seed box for one pass tilling and seeding.

The Turbo-Seeder is only available for the larger width models.

The Sub-Soiler is designed for deep vertical tillage shattering compaction layers created by horizontal tillage tools such as ploughs and discs.

The Sub-Soiler is available in working widths from 2.1m to 6.09m with No-Till shanks that work at depths of 12 to 16 inches (30-40cm).

Offered as standard is the No-Till shank which cuts through the ground vertically to loosen soil with minimal disturbance to the top soil and no crop residue burial.

This broadcasting seeder can be mounted to the Turbo-Max with either a 680 litre or 1200 litre seed box for one pass tilling and seeding.

The Sub-Soiler is offered with Auto Reset shanks available from three shanks or up to eight shanks with row spacings from 54 to 75cm.

The Max-Chisel is an aggressive primary tillage tool that works at a shallower depth and leaves the paddock smoother and more uniform than most traditional disc rippers.

The Max-Chisel is designed with two rows of “Samarai edge’’ disc gangs, two rows of chisel shanks, then with chopper wheels finishing with a heavy duty roller.

The disc gangs are hydraulically adjustable offering flexibility up to 10cm deep and feature the “Samarai edge’’ turbo blade to aggressively cut through the top soil and stubble.

Equipped with heavy-duty toggle trip chisel shanks, this hybrid unit works in the 20.5-30.5cm range while vertically fracturing the soil.

The Max-Chisel has a row of chopper wheels to break any clods and rip out any remaining residue, finishing with a heavy duty roller to firm the soil.

Available in widths of 3.5m to 4.25m and folding 5 to 5.8m, the Max-Chisel is a great one pass tillage tool which has potential in sugar cane, row crop or maize areas.
