Henty jingle means get the pool ready for summer fun
August 17, 2015
The Henty Machinery Field Days iconic jingle is music to the ears of pool owners throughout the Riverina and North East Victoria.
Dick and Michelle Lappin, owners of Poolside Albury, Wodonga and Wangaratta, use the familiar jingle as a reminder to customers to prepare their pools for summer.
Michelle, a former nurse specialising in brain injury, said the jingle triggers a response mechanism in the brain to remind people to increase the running time of their pool pumps.
“I tell customers when they hear the Henty jingle on the radio or TV, they need to get their pool ready for summer,’’ she said.
The Henty Machinery Field Days are something of a family tradition for the Lappins.
Michelle grew up in a farming family from Beechworth and knew the value of exhibiting at the Henty Machinery Field Days.
“Henty was our big family outing for the year,’’ she said.
“When Dick and I got married and had our daughter Kazja, we would meet my parents at the field days, and they would take Kazja back to Beechworth for the school holidays.
“Kazja has only missed one field days in her 26 years – she was 17, on an exchange to America and wanted to come home for the three days of Henty.
“We know the value and draw of Henty – it was a no brainer to go.’’
Mrs Lappin said the field days were well recognised within the pool and spa industry with Rob Kruger from Australia’s biggest spa manufacturer, Spa Industries, attending for the three days.
“All our reps coming to the field days are astounded by the results and interest Henty generates,’’ she said.
“And, it just doesn’t stop after the field days – our products are a lifestyle purchase with people often ringing me up to two years after seeing us at Henty.’’
Poolside Albury/Wodonga has been exhibiting at Henty since 2007 and this year will display a large fibreglass pool, an above ground pool filled with water and pump connected, and a working model heated spa.
There will also be a full range of spas, swim spas, pumps, filters, cleaners and accessories.
Mrs Lappin said luxury spas were now equipped with television screens, sound systems, waterfalls, mood lighting and chillers for drinks.
The top of the range model at Poolside Albury/Wodonga is the Force Advantage with a seating capacity of six adults and the capacity to change the intensity of the water pressure.
Boasting 98 jets, the spa has underwater LED mood lighting, intuitive touch screen, Wi-Fi Global, integrated TV/DVD system and a maintenance free EternaWood cabinet.
Poolside Albury, Wodonga and Wangaratta is fresh from winning the 2014 National Spa and Pool Shop of the Year.
The Lappins originally bought the business in 2006 and have undertaken a major expansion every year.
“In 2009, we developed a greenfield site in Wodonga as we had noticed a void in the Albury-Wodonga market for spas,’’ Mrs Lappin said.
“We had also received requests from our Wodonga customers for a local outlet.
“Customers can now inspect 20-30 spas on the showroom floor at Wodonga.’’
Dick manages the Albury store, Kazja the Wodonga outlet and Michelle the Wangaratta shop.
“We pride ourselves on customer service, being a family business with a great dedicated team and selling good quality Australian made products,’’ Mrs Lappin said.
“We work in a happy leisure industry and each one of my staff have the business at heart.’’
Poolside also provide a valet maintenance service for customers in an area bounded by Seymour in the south and The Rock in the north.
The business stocks Summertime Fibreglass pools, from compact designs right through to plunge and family sized pools, in around five different shapes.
