Robust UAVs finding niche in agriucultural applications

Unmanned aerial vehicles are monitoring power lines, irrigation canals, fence lines and finding wayward livestock on Australian farms.

They are also being increasingly used in precision agriculture as aerial imaging systems for crop monitoring.

AgEagle and AgFalcon create spectral imaging of any size field and instantly identifying which sections or plants are under stress from infestation, weeds, or waterlogging problems.

The AgEagle is built “tractor tough’’ especially for the ag market with electrical power allowing up to 202ha coverage in a single 35-minute flight.

The on-board camera takes hundreds of pictures in high resolution Near InfraRed, converted to NDVI (Normalised Vegetation Difference Index), will clearly show the problem areas.

The AgEagle and AgFalcon quad copters are serious farm tools with a complex auto pilot and robust construction.

The entire system is a “turn-key’’ operation, as both UAVs are auto take off, flight and land, and are controlled by a lap top computer to a pre-programed flight path.

Cloudy or windy days do not affect the imagery.

Manufactured in Kansas, USA, Falcon UAV is the exclusive agent of AgEagle in Australia and New Zealand.

The AgFalcon quad copter is locally made to Australian specifications and can carry a high definition video or digital camera to monitor farm infrastructure or stock movements.

For larger properties, the Aerosonde is ideal for scanning and surveillance.

Powered by a two cylinder engine, it is built to military specifications and can fly for more than 10 hours out to 500km.

The Aerosonde can carry a wide variety of cameras and sensors, including thermal Infrared, NIR, video and regular colour.
