Fordson Major tractor to be centrepiece of vintage display at Henty
September 10, 2014
Henty and District Antique Machinery Club president Rob Dawe said the Perkins diesel engine would be a theme of this year’s vintage display at the field days.
“We will have a range of tractors and self-propelled headers manufactured with the Perkins engine on show,’’ Mr Dawe said.
“The company had an involvement in supplying the British war effort and, when the war was over, many British companies opted for a Perkins P4, 5 or 6 to power their machinery.’’
Mr Dawe said the popular Bulldog tractors would make another appearance at the field days.
“The Bulldogs draw crowds 15-deep on the fence – they are the icon of the attractions, especially if they are restored,’’ he said.
There will also be a selection of classic stationary engines on display.
Club secretary Ian McGee said a 1947 Engine Function (EF) baler – wire tie and with a restored engine restored by Kerry Pietsch– would give working demonstrations making bales from loose hay.
